A wet and windy start for a beautiful couple

Do  you plan for contingencies on your wedding day?

I would think that many couples will just assume that things will go right for them on the day. Honestly that is a reasonable frame of mind, no one wants things to go wrong. Who would expect things to go bad? The problems is that sometimes they do. Let me tell you a little story that will help you understand what I am talking about.

Picture this, an excited bride and groom pick their wedding day. They have chosen a day in the middle of summer. They choose a church wedding and settle on a beautiful church in Glenelg, only a few hundred metres from the beach. Plans are made for photo opportunities in open places like the water front, parks and the racing club they selected for the reception. Such great locations with so many options to create excellent photos with.

Before the wedding day these guys had hatched a plan for bad weather with the owner of Crema on Jetty Cafe. This lovely little cafe had a gorgeous upstairs room and it was selected as a bad weather alternative.

When Sally and I arrived at the brides place before the ceremony the weather was beautiful. A bit of wind but the sun was bright and the temperature was lovely. Once we had progressed to the church the weather was still holding out quite well. However, some time during the ceremony the skies opened up and let loose a tirade of wind and rain.

Now as the photographer the mind is racing about how to work around this weather for family shots and then where to after that. As I begin to formulate a plan to suggest the bride casually says that they have a cafe organised down the road and we could do family shots there. Suddenly life got a lot simpler. A quick dash down the street and we were in lovely surroundings ready to take photos.

Sally took this shot from the safety of the church Foyer.

While I was out there in the rain with Candyce!

The cafe was only down the road and fortunately the footpath is undercover so Sally and I weren’t super wet when we arrived there. As you can see the room gave us an awesome backdrop for great photos.

This next photo will give you an idea about the weather. It wasn’t an easy walk for Candyce to get around the corner to the cars and the wind had died down at that point!

THe reception was in the Tapestry Pavilion at the SA Jockey Club. Such a beautiful room overlooking the race course.
